In the evening, Asheville's downtown comes alive and offers a mulitude of places to go for live music any day of the week. Here are some of our favorite spots to visit in the evening.

Asheville Clubs & Bars for Live Music
Tressa's Downtown Jazz & Blues
Top Pick! At Tressa's in downtown Asheville, listen (and dance) to live jazz and blues every night. Now in their 8th year, they continue to offer the city's best selection of fine spirits such as single malt scotches, small batch bourbons, estate rums, and sipping Tequilas; as well as their famous martinis, light fare menu, and fine cigars. The multi-cultural and diverse clientele who frequent Tressa's enjoy an ambience not found elsewhere in the city. The softly lit, Old New Orleans elegance together with the truly impeccable service and great live music create an oasis many of Asheville's famous and infamous have and will continue to enjoy for years! Tressa's has opened the second floor. The upstairs has been transformed into a beautiful, non-smoking VIP area complete with a fireplace. 28 Broadway Street

The Orange Peel Social Aid & Pleasure Club
This downtown live music club features state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment rarely found in a club of its size. The smoke-free facility has a beautiful interior, creating a fabulous setting for enjoying the premier musicians who perform here. The Orange Peel Social Aid & Pleasure Club's capacity is 900 standing, and it is the nation's premiere Live Music Hall and Concert Venue featuring the very best in live music and cultural arts. Acts appearing on stage have included Bob Dylan, Flaming Lips, Ben Harper, Blondie, Spoon, Sonic Youth, Damien Rice, Sam Bush and many more. The Smashing Pumpkins did a nine-show run there in June 2007. The dance floor is several hundred square feet of springy wooden slats, and the stage is in perfect view from any angle on the floor. Dancing is a big part of the live music experience, so dancing styles are as varied as the music played at the club!
They do not have our own parking lot. However, like other downtown businesses, The Orange Peel rely on street parking, paid parking towers, and public parking (free after 6pm!). DO NOT park in other neighbors' spaces that are marked as tow-away zones. 101 Biltmore Avenue

Jack of the Wood
Jack of the Wood is a cozy, Celtic style pub located in downtown Asheville. Handcrafted English style ales are brewed at their nearby brewing facility and served fresh daily. On a typical evening at Jack's you will find many of the patrons gathered around the black walnut bar or at long tavern tables, engaged in conversation through which the taboo subjects of art, religion and politics are heavily woven. Others play darts or scan the papers while sipping pints of ale or munching on a plate of fish and chips. When the local musicians are fiddling away on Irish reels or picking some olde time mountain music in the corner with the wooden shutters closed against the night, you can blink your eyes and imagine yourself in the Celtic Isles or Colonial America. The small but varied menu will keep your hunger pangs at bay with its simple traditional favorites and daily special. A wonderful bunch of locals consider Jack their local pub, but are not opposed to sharing.
